September 23, 2008 Askom Campout Rescue
Over the weekend of September 20, 2008 approximately 40 students and staff spent the weekend camping on a mountain near the school. On Sunday, September 21, a group of ten individuals including 7 students, 2 staff children and a teacher became lost in fog and snow during their return descent. When they failed to arrive at the base at the scheduled time, the school initiated an emergency response that included an immediate helicopter search until dark and a request for police and Search and Rescue assistance. Shortly after 12:00 PM on Monday, September 22 the group was located by the Search and Rescue team. There were no injuries but they were all airlifted by helicopter to the local Lillooet Hospital for evaluation. All ten individuals returned to the school campus that afternoon.
The rescue efforts were successful despite very difficult weather conditions. The rapid and professional response of the local police, the Search and Rescue teams, helicopter pilots, hospital staff, and volunteers was remarkable and deeply appreciated. We are thankful for God's protection and for the many individuals who were praying for the group's safety.
February 26, 2008 Myspace
Fountainview Strings and Choir now has a Myspace! Click here to visit!
Food, food, and more food!! Tonight was the long awaited, well prepared for, and much anticipated International supper. International supper is a night when the students and staff here at Fountainview have a chance to make food from different countries and share it with others. Each country gets its own booth and is decorated by the students and staff representing that country. Over one hundred and twenty people came to enjoy the food from over 17 countries. After everyone was fully stuffed we all headed into the auditorium to enjoy a journey throughout the world. We enjoyed songs, stories, and presentations on several different countries. Hopefully everybody left with a full stomach and a better understanding of international culture.
Along with recording a new audio CD, we also are making a music DVD. Considering it is Christmas music we are playing, it would make sense to film in a wintry setting. So we grabbed our warm clothes and headed out into the cold. Amazingly, the majority of the filming was finished in just the past 3 days. We played along the Fraser river, rode in sleighs, and sang around campfires. We even performed on the side of a mountian while being filmed from a helicopter. What an amazing opportunity! We hope that this DVD will be big blessing! Well now the fun of filming is done, and the fun work of editing begins!
The past few days have been quite busy. We have been spending our time recording a new CD. This year we are making a Christmas album tentatively entitled "Go Tell it On The Mountain". We just recently purchased several pieces of recording equipment that equips us record and edit this project right here on campus. With the help of Dr. Tom Blaylock, a professional voice teacher and the founder of the Northwest Insitute of Voice, we were able to finish recording the whole CD in just 3 days. Praise the Lord!
